SUMMARY:Webinar: Creating a Fire Rehabilitation Program
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Fireground Rehab for Everyone \nFirefighting is physically demanding work.  Overexertion is a leading cause of firefighter injuries and can lead to line-of-duty deaths.  Fireground rehabilitation helps firefighters to work safely and is not just for large departments.  In this presentation\, Mike McEvoy and David Hostler\, lead authors of the textbook Rehabilitation and Medical Monitoring will describe how any department\, from the smallest to the largest\, can implement effective and efficient fireground rehab.  From hydration\, to cooling\, to firefighter assessment\, this session will provide the most up-to-date and practical advice for keeping your members healthy and safe on the fireground. \n  \nMike McEvoy is the Saratoga County EMS Coordinator and a Paramedic Supervisor for Clifton Park & Halfmoon Ambulance.  He is a nurse clinician in the adult and pediatric cardiac surgery ICUs at Albany Medical Center where he also teaches critical care medicine.  Mike is the chief medical officer and firefighter/paramedic for West Crescent Fire Department.  He is the chair of the EMS Section board of directors for the International Association of Fire Chiefs and a member of the New York State Governor’s EMS Advisory Council.  Mike is a lead author of the textbook Critical Care Transport\, the Informed Pocket References (published by Jones & Bartlett)\, and the American Academy of Pediatrics textbook Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP).  In his free time\, he is an avid hiker and winter mountain climber. \nDave Hostler has more than 30 years of experience in public safety and is a professor\, chair of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences\, and a clinical professor of emergency medicine at the University at Buffalo.  He earned his B.A and M.S degrees from Wright State University and his doctorate from Ohio University.  Dave’s research interests are human performance and physiological responses of public safety and military personnel wearing personal protective equipment.  He was an investigator in the Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium and has published numerous manuscripts on prehospital care and resuscitation.  Dave is the founding director of the Emergency Responder Human Performance Lab and the director of the Center for Research and Education in Special Environments (CRESE).  He is an expert in performance in extreme environments and his research has been funded by NIH\, FEMA\, NAVSEA\, and the Office of Naval Research. \nRegister here. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
